The Dalasi is currency of the Gambia that was implemented in 1971 having code GMD. The Dalasi is segmented into 100 bututs. It interchanged the Gambian pound at ratio of 1 pound = 5 dalasis. The name Dalasi is originates from “dala” a nickname of 5 French West African franc note while butut is derives from Wolof butuut, “small things”.
A whole new series of notes is released by Central Bank of Gambia in June 2019. Banknotes currently in circulation are 5, 10, 20, 25, 50, 100 and 200 dalasi and coins of 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 bututs.
